Local Parks
| The Olympia Fields Park District is celebrating its 50th year in 2006.
The Park District owns 142.95 acres of park land and operates year round
recreation programs for the community, with special activities for
pre-school, youth and adults. The Park District office is located at 20712
Western Avenue, Olympia Fields, IL 60461. This is in Sgt. Means Park, in the
1890s farmhouse, Cull House, meeting facility. Sgt. Means Park has been
recognized with the 1997 International Design Magazine "Design Distinction
in the Environments' Award, the 1996 AIA/New York Chapter Design Award, and
both the 1995 and 1996 Illinois Park and Recreation Association's
"Outstanding Park and Facility" Award. Find out more about the Olympia

The award winning Sergeant Means park is
shaped like the state of Illinois. The
map at the left has north at the top. If we rotate it 90 degrees clockwise
you can see the shape of the state of Illinois.

Another unique park is Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center. This is
a joint project of the Homewood-Flossmoor and Olympia Fields park districts.
This 40-acre facility is involved with education, recreation and adventure.

| There is a dog park in Homewood, four or five miles from our area.
It is a fenced area where dogs can run and play off leash. Dogs must join
the park. More information is available from the Homewood Flossmoor Park
District at (708)957-0300.
